English Professor Dennis Moore to speak at final event of FSU Spring Faculty Luncheon Series

Dennis Moore

Dennis Moore, an associate professor in Florida State University's Department of English and a 1999 recipient of the University Distinguished Teaching Award, will speak April 17 at the fourth and final event of  the Spring 2012 Faculty Luncheon Series.

The topic for this spring's series is "Why We Still Teach." Amid years of university budget cuts, constant concerns about a faculty "brain drain" and changing ideas about the purpose of higher education, the three previous speakers, all distinguished and nationally recognized faculty members from Florida State, have talked about why they still love working with students and have shared their knowledge and experiences in the fields they have made their life's work. Moore will offer up his perspectives as well.

Moore was one of the first professors at Florida State to consider the question of "Why We Teach" and the theory that surrounds it when he organized a Faculty Luncheon Series on this topic five years ago. He was not one of the speakers at that luncheon series, so the April 17 luncheon will provide him the opportunity to share his views on this important topic in academia. The title of Moore's talk is "Listen. Reflect. Discuss. Repeat as Needed."

The final Spring Faculty Luncheon Series event of 2012 will take place:
