POSTAGE

Notice the top and bottom pictures of the envelopes, they have no postage stamps just cancellation postmarks. The service men were allowed to send mail to family and friends free. The bottom picture has free written across the cancellation mark. The middle envelope has an air mail stamp on it to speed up the delivery from overseas.
