A crew's aircraft was the scene of some
of the most thrilling and frightening episodes of their lives: its capabilities played an important part in whether or not they would survive another mission, and in time it became personified as almost one of them.  Many flight crews took care to decorate their plane in a special manner.  This display showcases some of these decorations--called "nose art" after their usual position on the nose of an airplane--in use during World War II.
