The material donated by
Catherine Lydia Baker Deitch (opposite, on furlough in 1943) contains a
number of letters, photographs and a diary detailing what life was like
for a WAC (Women's Army Corps) member stationed in Calcutta, India, during
World War II. She was sworn in at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on December
30, 1942, and went for basic training to Daytona Beach, Florida.
She was transferred to India, arriving at Bombay Harbor on October 28,
1944.
