From an interview with Frances Langford

We went on to Eniwetok.  They had just a shell runway way down at the other end with a shack for the pilots to go and all this and a little mess hall.  We got out, and they had a jeep.  So we got out in the Jeep, and we stared down the runway.  And there was a guy walking along the runway way ahead of us.

Bob [Hope] said, "I'm going to tell you something.  You see that man walking down there, way, way, down?"

We said, "Yeah."

He said, "I can tell you who that is."

We said, "You're crazy."

He says, "No, I can tell you who that is from here."

We said, "How can you do that?"

He said, "I know the way he walks."

We said, "You don't know anybody on Eniwetok."

He said, "I don't care.  I know who that is."

So we got closer, closer and closer.  Finally the guy pulled up and the fellow turned around and Bob said, "Hi ya, Hank."  It was Henry Fonda.  [who was stationed on the island]
