First offered in 2000, this graduate specialization is an elective available

Claremont University - Applied Women’s Studies Graduate Program
Claremont University, near Los Angeles, offers a unique Master’s program
in Applied Women’s Studies that encourages students to combine feminist theory
with real world applications. Students enrolled in the program complete
an internship or policy clinic. Internship opportunities include work
in educational settings, advocacy work, legal counseling, community service
organizations, homeless shelters, and homes for battered. The policy
clinics require students to become involved in research, data collection
and analysis in projects that focus on women’s issues in the public sector
governmental institutions, policy-making or law. The Master’s
of Applied Women’s Studies program prepares students for fulfilling careers
in community organizations, government agencies, and private sector organizations.

Southern Connecticut State University offers a Master's Degree in Women's
Studies. The Master of Arts degree in Women's
Studies is based ona two year cohort model. Students applying must hold a
bachelor's degree with an overall GPA of at least 2.5. Applications are accepted

USF, University of South Florida
The
M.A. in Women's Studies at USF has been designed to meet the needs of several
populations of graduate students. One group consists of students who will
go on to pursue a doctoral degree either in Women's Studies or in a disciplinary
field. Another group consists of students who will be seeking their M.A. as
theor terminal degree for purposes of career enhancement. The M.A. requires

Institute of Women's Studies at Emory University has a program
that is designed for candidates who wish to obtain a Ph.D. in Women's Studies.
Emory offers two different kinds of fellowships awarded across all departments:
Woodruff Fellowship, granted on the basis of demonstrated excellence, provide
tuition and fees ($21,770 for 1998-99) and a stipend of $15,000 annually for
five years. In addition, minority applicants are also eligible for
the Emory Minority Graduate Fellowships (tuition and $15,000 a year for four
years). The Institute for Women's Studies itself awards up to six program
fellowships each year that provide tuition and a stipend of $11,000 for a
total of four years. These awards entail some teaching responsibilities
during the first three years of the student's residence. A fifth year
of aid is also possible through the Graduate School's TATTO (Teacher and
Training Opportunity) Assistant Instructor program, a competitive award open

Simmons College offers a new interdisciplinary Master of Arts
in Gender/Cultural Studies. It emphasizes constructions of gender, race,
and nation in the United States as well as in international contexts.
The program is designed to broaden students' theoretical backgrounds in multiracial,
feminist, postcolonial, and transnational thought, as well as to provide
each student with the opportunity to apply contemporary theory to her or
his specific interest and professional goals. The Gender/Cultural Studies
degree requires 32 semester hours, the equivalent of eight courses.
A full course load is three courses per semester. Although the program
may be completed in one academic year, including summer study, most students
choose to complete the program over three or four semesters in order to explore
their interest more thoroughly. Students may take up to five years

The History department at the University of Maryland announces
the formation of a community of scholars dedicated to the study of the history
of women and gender. The department features a faculty of recognized prominence
in the United States, European, Middle Eastern and African history, and invite
students to apply to M.A. or Ph.D. program. The program focuses on
the historical study of women's experiences and construction of gender from
national, cross-cultural comparative, and transnational perspectives.
Students may follow a course of study within existing frameworks, or work
with the faculty members to tailor a program toward their particular interests.
The M.A. and Ph.D. in Women's and Gender History are administered within the

The Center of Women's Studies at University of Cincinnati offers
a masters program in Women's Studies. The M.A. requires a minimum of
54 quarter credit hours with five quarters of residency; the preparation of
an interdisciplinary research paper during the second year; and the successful
completion of an oral examination before a review panel of women's studies

Department of Women's Studies at the University of Minnesota offers Ph.D.
and graduate minor in Feminist Studies. The Feminist Studies
graduate curriculum emphasizes the systemic interaction of social conditions
such as class, ethnicity, race, sexualities, and national identity with gender.
These interactions and their effects are examined in cultural productions
such as: 1) media representations; 2) historical and colonialist paradigms;
3) social systems and relations of power; 4) genetic research and new technologies;
5) epistemologies and philosophy; 6) health care and public policy.

Master of Arts in Women's Studies at The University of Northern Iowa
. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the students with an interest
in pursuing a rigorous prgram of gender-focused research. The thirty-four
hour program(thesis required) includes a core sequence of five courses that
introduce students to feminiat theory, representative research on gender
and pertinent methodologies. Applicants who wish to be considered for scholarships
