Dissertation Support Group Updates
Coordinator: Rachel Sutz
This month's meeting will be Thursday,
September 26, at 7 PM at the Black Dog Cafe (off Monroe, next to the American
Legion). Meetings tend to run from an hour to an hour and a half.
Coming late or leaving early is perfectly acceptable. Come prepared
to talk about your progress toward your goal. Come even if you did not meet
your goal--let's talk about what happened! If you were not present at the
previous meeting, come to catch us up on what you've been doing! Students
at all stages of the dissertation process are welcome.
Meetings are generally in the fourth
week of the month and rotate between Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
to accommodate disparate member schedules. The meeting places vary
between different cafes and coffeehouses in town.
Email Rachel Sutz at
rss7071@mailer.fsu.edu
to be added to the group email list.
New people are always
welcome and you can be at any stage in the dissertation process. And
, remember, the group is NOT just
for women any more.
[Yes, we are still predominantly female in membership, but men can participate
as full members and are very welcome.]
In addition to discussing everyone's progress
[or possible reasons for the lack thereof], we will also be talking about
a Fall Dissertation Retreat--a one-day deal that promises to be very productive!
Background: The dissertation support group began
in 1999 as an interdisciplinary campus wide student-run group for women (see
the FSU Women's Studies web site for more details). The group became
coed in 2000, and has remained open to all students at any stage of the dissertaion
process since that time. Members attend meetings as their schedule permits
and utilize the email list to stay in touch, ask questions, and share progress
reports.
Note: We will continue to
have a women only group for those who are interested. Please contact Rachel
if you want to attend such a meeting.
Late Arrivals are Welcome. Occasional drop-ins at these gatherings
are also welcome. We don't want people to feel as if this is one more commitment
in their already overloaded schedules. Come when you can!
If anyone
has preferences for the time and location during the the semester, please
email Rachel Sutz at: rss7071@mailer.fsu.edu
or call or 321-3582.
