Women, Men, and the Politics of Emotion in Everyday Life
Stephanie Shields
Pennsylvania State University

Professor Shields is the author of Speaking from the Heart: Gender and the Social Meaning of Emotion (Cambridge University Press, 2002).  Her groundbreaking interdisciplinary work combines perspectives drawn from work in psychology, history and physiology in the exploration of ideologies of emotion, gender, and stereotyping.

The FSU Police Department offers the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System.

The Rape Aggression Defense Physical Defense courses for women only have been scheduled for the following dates.  RAD is a system of self-defense and crime avoidance awareness for women only.  This "hands-on" course is not a martial arts class, but a class designed to "develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked." 
 
 

The Schedule for 2002 is as follows:

Class 5 - November 12, 14, 19, 21 (Tue & Thur) from 6PM - 9PM

Tuesday, November 12Board Meeting from 5:45-7:30 PM at the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence, 1131-A Paul Russell Road (call Beverly at 297-1281 for information).  Everyone is welcome. 
Sunday, December 8Holiday Reception from 3:00-5:00 PM at the home of Carolyn Dubard, 5033 Brill Point Road (off Meridian), call 668-2860 for directions.  Bring a holiday dessert to share and your check book to make a contribution to Education Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund.
