CONTACT: Kathryn Torian, (850) 645-4627; <ktorian@campus.fsu.edu> June 24, 2008 FSU TO BREAK GROUND ON NEW TURNBULL CENTER Florida State University officials will break ground Thursday for a 47,000-square-foot conference center adjacent to a newly constructed five-story parking garage on the corner of Copeland and Pensacola streets. Construction of the new Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center will begin this month and is expected to be completed in fall 2009. It will replace an aging structure that was demolished last year to make way for the new center and parking garage. The center is named for Turnbull, who served as FSU provost from 1986 until his death in 1991. The three-story center will feature a large auditorium, a banquet hall, classrooms, an executive boardroom, computer labs, food preparation facilities and administrative offices. Among those participating in the groundbreaking ceremony are Robert Bradley, FSU vice president for Planning and Programs; Marjorie Turnbull, a former Leon County commissioner and Florida state representative; and Bill Lindner, director of FSU’s Academic and Professional Program Services. The ceremony will be held: 9 A.M. # # # |
