CONTACT: Carol Deloach, (850) 644-1259; <cdeloach@admin.fsu.edu> By Jennifer Howard FSU HONORS NIGHT TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING STUDENTS TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- This year’s Honors Night Ceremony will be held Thursday, April 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. to recognize Florida State University students for outstanding academic achievement. The University Honors Program, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa will present the awards. In order to qualify for the Outstanding Senior Scholar award students must have at least a 3.9 GPA, successfully defend or be in the process of defending their Honors in the Major thesis work and successfully complete or be in the process of completing 18 hours of honors coursework. Each will receive $100. Helen Burke, director of the University Honors Program, will present Outstanding Senior Scholar awards to: Thelma Acquaah-Harrison, a communication sciences and disorders major from Tampa; Alec Bogdanoff, a meteorology major from Ft. Lauderdale; Nicholas Farber, a biology and sports management major from Orlando; Jeff Godbey Jr., a biology major from Tallahassee; Joshua Goodman, a history major from Perry; Michael Henderson, a biology major from Keystone Heights, Fla.; Kate Molony, an international affairs and psychology major from St. Petersburg; and Amanda Stone, a political science and history major from Ft. Walton Beach. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recognizes excellence in all disciplines. In addition to inducting superior juniors, seniors and graduate students from all colleges, the society recognizes excellence through a number of awards ranging in value from $500 to $750. This year’s Phi Kappa Phi award recipients are: Undergraduate Scholar and national fellowship nominee Chelsea T. Woodcock, a psychology and philosophy major from Valrico, Fla.; Graduate Scholar Stephen C. Thursby, a historical musicology doctoral candidate from Havana, Fla.; Artist Award winner Jacqueline M. Podence, working on a master’s degree in dance from Scotch Plains, N.J.; and Honors Award winner Ellyn P. Marder, a biochemistry major from Naples, Fla. In addition, Phi Beta Kappa, an honor society recognizing the highest standards of achievement in liberal arts, will announce the Marion Jewell Hay Award winner. The award is $300 and is given to a graduating Summa Cum Laude student who has conducted outstanding research. ### |
