What is the Center for Advising Undeclared Majors (CAUS)?
CAUS is a specialized advising center that assists
undeclared freshman and sophomore students in planning their academic programs
and exploring possible majors.
How can CAUS help me?
CAUS advisors will help you plan an academic program
based on your specific needs. The academic plan will address Liberal Studies
and other university requirements, as well as preparatory courses appropriate
for majors you are considering. Advisors will explain FSU policies and
procedures, and refer you to appropriate campus resources. For career
information, we recommend visiting the FSU
Career Center, which is located directly above CAUS on the fourth
floor of the University Center.
If I am assigned to CAUS for advising, who is my academic advisor?
Full-time and part-time advisors staff
CAUS. When you make an appointment you may request a specific advisor
or we will schedule you to see an advisor available at your appointment
time. Once you have decided on your major you will be assigned a
new advisor in that area.
When should I declare a major?
You should declare your major as soon as you
know what you want that major to be. Although the University will
permit you to remain "undeclared" until the term you have attempted 75
hours, it is becoming increasingly common for majors to expect that specific
coursework be completed during your first two years. In addition,
some majors require applications with specific due dates. An advisor
from your major area is best able to assist you in meeting such requirements.
