Department Website

William P. Anthony
DeSantis Professor of Business Administration

Dr. Anthony has supervised several DIS, researching various areas of human resource management in association with the revision of a human resource management text. Four or five students helped him with the book. In Spring 2002, Michelle Lashley completed research into bankruptcy and business failures with an emphasis on Enron and other large corporate failures. He is willing to do more of these DIS.

Chuck Kacmar
Associate Professor

Dr. Kacmar supervised Russ Mall's Summer and Fall 2001 DIS, titled "Collaborative Programming Environment for Microsoft's Visual Basic Language." Since none of the programming languages marketed by Microsoft support collaborative, group, or team-based programming, the goal of this project was to develop a transparent client/ server system that would support collaborative programming for students enrolled in CGS4404. Mr. Mall first studied the facilities for building client/ server systems in the Microsoft Windows environment, focusing much of his attention on socket communications, then worked on the development of the software. He created a working prototype thus demonstrating the viability of this approach. This project will continue after Mr.Mall graduates.

Nikhil Alkari completed a DIS under Dr. Kacmar's supervision in Fall 2000, titled "Web-based Survey Collection With Oracle." Mr. Alkari investigated and created a prototype software system using Oracle to facilitate the collection of data for studies conducted by PhD students in the MIS Department within the College of Business. He studied the Oracle interactive development environment and created a prototype that modeled each type of question found in the various survey instruments. The software demonstrated the ability for Oracle to serve as a platform for collecting research data and demonstrated the ease at which collected data could be imported into a statistical package, such as SPSS, for analysis.
