Research Activities and Outcomes

We believe that our interventions will have a positive effect on academic enhancement and engaged teaching time. We will be comparing outcomes at Sabal Palm Elementary to a comparison school, chosen due to its high similarity to Sabal Palm on measures of academic achievement, discipline, and socio-economic status (as determined by numbers of free lunch students).

The following outcome measures are being utilized:

Academic performance Scores:

• California Achievement Test
• Florida Writing Assessment
• Terra Nova

Behavior and Discipline:

• Number of discipline referrals to the office
• Number of referrals to in-school suspensions
• Number of out-of-school suspensions

Engaged Teaching:

• Engaged teaching time as measured by the Teaching Questionnaire (Link here to a copy of this measure)

Parent Involvement:

• Number of parents that volunteer at the school
• Total hours of parent volunteerism

Community Volunteerism:

• Number of community volunteers
• Total hours of community volunteerism

Tardiness and absenteeism:

• Number of student tardies
• Number of student absences
