My Heart's in Bosnia Mission Statement

My Heart's In Bosnia

History and Mission

"My Heart's in Bosnia" (MHB) was born on December 7th during a conference call between advisors to the Green Cross, based at Florida State University. MHB includes an on-line service for the families and friends of the NATO troops, humanitarian workers, and anyone else who is in Bosnia trying to stop the killing and bind up the wounds of war. Taking the metaphor of the Community Center for our work, we've designed "My Heart's in Bosnia" to be as accessible and user-friendly as possible. Going to the MHB Web site will be like arriving in the lobby of a neighborhood community center, complete with an information desk and map explaining how to find and use the "rooms" where we provide various services.

This is the latest in efforts by the Green Cross Project which is currently training 200 registered traumatologists in Oklahoma City to care for those traumatized from the April 19th bombing.

The creation of this Project was made possible by an initial contribution by the National Veterans Foundation (NVF), based in Los Angeles. The NVF has been a frequently and strong supporter of the efforts of our resarch program's R&D efforts that in some way help veterans and their families.

The objectives of the MHB are five fold:

  1. Inform: Provide the latest and most factual information available on their loved ones and what they may be dealing with at that moment.
  2. Be Informed: Make it possible for family and friends visiting the virtual community center to inform other visitors about matters of mutual interest.
  3. Social Support: Provide ways for visitors to seek and secure the kind of social support and reassurance useful in coping with the current situation.
  4. Counsel and Consultation: Provide a list of practitioners in their area that they can call on for help at no charge (or minimal charge).
  5. Connect and Communicate: Provide ways of making contact with others in their situation through Email, chat rooms, and special interest forums.
