Mary Stutzman, Ph.D.
 
Director, FSU Survey Research Laboratory 

Dr. Mary Stutzman serves as the full-time Director of the FSU Survey Research Laboratory, the official survey center of FSU and part of the College of Social Science Data Center.  She also teaches the Survey Research Practicum as part of the Summer Institute in Social Science Research Methods at Florida State University.

Dr. Stutzman has over 20 years experience in public program evaluation, applied research, state government work, and survey research.  She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Michigan State University.  As the former methodologist for the Office of Program Policy Analysis & Government Accountability, she has extensive experience with state programs, designing and delivering training in applied methods, graphical presentations, and survey research.

Between 1978 and 1986, Dr. Stutzman was an assistant professor in the FSU Department of Public Administration, where she taught public program evaluation and research methods.  She has designed and taught a course in research methods for executive managers.  She conducted a number of major surveys sponsored by grants from state agencies while she was an assistant professor.

  • Principal Investigator for major marketing survey to determine interest in Social Health Maintenance Organizations by Floridians 65 + Years Old; $75,000 grant from Florida Department of Health & Rehabilitative Services; Working with Brandeis University Health Policy Center (1985). A random-digit-dial telephone survey of over 2,000 Floridians 65 and over stratified according to four regions.
  • Principal Investigator for needs assessment survey for the 75 and older population: $65,000 grant from the Florida Department of Health & Rehabilitative Services and the State University System (1984). A demonstration using a telephone survey to assess the needs of the elderly; a disproportionate stratified random-digit-dial telephone survey of over 1,400 Floridians statewide over the age of 75.
