Summary
The FSU Survey Research Laboratory has been conducting the Florida Annual Policy Survey (FAPS) since 1979.  This survey is designed to monitor the policy interests and attitudes of Floridians on important issues facing state and local governments.  The content of the survey changes from year to year, but core demographic and attitudinal questions are consistently included.  The data are gathered through a random digit dial telephone survey of the Florida adult population aged 18 years and over.  Since 1990, the SRL conducted its surveys using CASES software for computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) techniques.  Beginning in 2001, the SRL switched to WinCati software.  Both software packages allow for scripted interviewing which produces more reliable data by minimizing coding error.

**NOTE**
Prior to 1990, the SRL conducted the FAPS using questionnaires in paper format.  These questionnaires were recently scanned and transformed into electronic format.  For these codebooks, SPSS variable labels are in bold, but the numbers from the original questionnaire remain.  FAPS instruments from 1990 to 2000 were written in Computer-Assisted Survey Execution System (CASES) language.  Text that appears in brackets are CASES commands that cannot be seen by the interviewer.  The 2001 FAPS instrument was written in Sawtooth WinCati language.
