Description:
Biographical material. Arranged alphabetically. Includes a biography from December 1963 and biographical sketches of Holland.

Papers - Governor. Arranged alphabetically. 1940-1946. Papers pertaining to Holland's term as Governor from 1941-1945. Includes addresses, correspondence, reports, election returns. Among the addresses included are the Colin Kelly Memorial Dedication, Commencement Addresses for the University of Florida and the Florida State College for Women, and an address given on the occasion of launching a Liberty Ship named in honor of Duncan U. Fletcher of Florida.

Campaign materials. Arranged chronologically. 1946-1968. Files of materials pertaining to various campaigns including the 1946 Senatorial Race and Holland's 1952 campaign. The majority of this series consists of papers and county files pertaining to the 1964 campaign. Also included is correspondence and miscellaneous items concerning Claude Pepper and LeRoy Collins.

Personal Correspondence. 1940-1971. This series includes the personal correspondence of Holland, Holland Family correspondence, correspondence from 1971, and the individual files of Holland. Holland's personal correspondence is primarily from the 1960s and early 1970s before his death. The majority of this collection consists of correspondence from 1971, which is arranged alphabetically. Among the Holland family members included in the Holland Family correspondence are Mary Agnes Groover Holland, William B. Holland, Fannie V. Holland, Frank Holland, and various other Holland relatives. The individual files include Civil War material, correspondence with George Goldthwaite, and correspondence concerning the inaugurations of Johnson and Roosevelt.

Floridiana. Arranged chronologically. 1955-1967. Includes correspondence, articles, maps, etc. pertaining to Florida.

Memberships. Arranged alphabetically. Includes honorary, military, fraternal, miscellaneous memberships. Among the organizations and groups represented are the Masonic Order, Alpha Tau Omega, the Elks, Phi Beta Kappa, the American Legion, Order of the World Wars, Florida Bar, the St. Augustine Quadricentennial Commission, and the Boy Scouts of America.

Sea Companies. Arranged alphabetically. Includes materials concerning sea companies such as articles, speeches, bids, charter rates, equipment correspondence, interoffice memoranda, and general correspondence.

Speeches. No discernible arrangement. 1942 and not dated. This series includes a speech entitled "The Holland Years," which aired on WFLA-TV, a presentation of a University of Florida Law Degree, and a speech given at a Testimonial Luncheon of the Florida Democrats.

World War I. Arranged chronologically. 1960-1971. Holland's papers relating to World War I including a history of the 91st Aero Squadron Air Service.

Retirement. Arranged alphabetically. 1970. This first part series consists of a presentation album containing letters of well-wishers among Holland's colleagues in the Senate. The majority of this series, however, is in the form of correspondence and comments concerning Holland's service and retirement.

Photographs. Arranged chronologically. 194?-1969. This series includes photographs of and by Holland and the Holland Family. The bulk of the photographs are from the 1960s. Also included are a photo album of the Hollands' 50th Wedding Anniversary and framed photographs of Senator and Mrs. Holland, including one picturing Holland with John Kennedy.

Memorabilia - Certificates. Arranged alphabetically. 1916-1971. Certificates of award, merit, tribute, honorary membership, appreciation, outstanding service, etc. This large series includes certificates from the American Bar Association, the American Legion, various Chambers of Commerce in Florida, Emory University, various counties of the State, Kiwanis, the Lions Club, Phi Delta Phi, and the U.S. Army just to name a few.

Memorabilia - Plaques. Arranged alphabetically. 1925-1971. Various wood and/or metal of various shapes and sizes. For distinguished service, outstanding service, etc.
Includes plaques from the American Legion, various Chambers of Commerce in Florida, various counties of the State, Kiwanis, the Lions Club, Rotary International, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Memorabilia - Miscellaneous. Arranged alphabetically. 1918-1969. Ashtrays, cigar boxes, flags, gavels, paintings, political cartoons, pictures, a gowns and hoods from Stetson University and the University of Florida, phonograph records, etc. A number of the items in this series have been returned to Spessard Holland's daughter.

Miscellaneous. No discernible arrangement. 1940 and Not Dated. Invitations, programs, Mrs. Holland memorabilia from the Florida State College for Women, newspaper clippings, etc.

Books and pamphlets. Arranged alphabetically by author's last name. Includes From Death to Life by Ilona von Dohnanyi, Technical Education in Nicaragua by Harvey Kessler Meyer, and a Radio Address given by Governor David Sholtz on the Second Anniversary of his Inauguration.

Additional - Miscellaneous. Unarranged. Includes a War Ration Book, correspondence from Virginia Holland Gallemore, a scrapbook, negatives, and papers of Mrs. Holland.

Additional - Income Tax and Health. Arranged chronologically. 1945-1968. Includes the Income Tax records from 1945 to 1968 as well as Holland's health records.

Additional - Letters, tapes, and memorabilia. No discernible arrangement. Includes autographed letters, reel-to-reel tapes, materials related to the Tidelands Act, and other various memorabilia.

Additional - Books. Unarranged. A total of 179 books that belonged to Spessard and Mary Holland.
