The Florida Collection is a selective collection of books and periodicals by Florida
authors and about Florida topics. Subjects covered include local history, guidebooks,
business, politics, Indians, archaeology, and the environment. Two of the
more unusual holdings include Narrative of a voyage to the Spanish Main
in the ship Two Friends and Soldiers of Florida in the Seminole
Indian, Civil and Spanish-American Wars. The Narrative, published
in London in 1819, includes a description of the occupation of Amelia Island
by M'Gregor, sketches of the province of East Florida, and anecdotes illustrative
of the habits and manners of the Seminole Indians. The Soldiers of Florida
was published under the supervision of the Board of State Institutions
in Live Oak, Florida circa 1903. The Florida Information File and Florida Biography File
