Biographical Note:
Francis Eppes was the grandson of Thomas Jefferson and a long-time resident of Tallahassee. He came to Florida in the 1820s and served in various positions including mayor of the city and head of the Seminary West of the Suwannee, which would eventually become the Florida State College for Women and later the Florida State University.

Scope and Content:
This letter was written by Francis Eppes to Rev'd John Woart of Swedsboro, N.J. The letter, dated July 25, 1838, is an invitation to take charge of St. Johns Church in Tallahassee, Florida.
