a typed copy of an article Gilchrist had sent to the Punta Gorda Morning
Tribune, dated March 3, 1906, on the subject of the reprieve of sentence
by the Pardoning Board in the case of I.E. Cooper, sentenced for the murder
of Marshall J.H. Bowman of Punta Gorda. 2 items.
2. Correspondence from Claude L'Engle, Editor of The Sun, Tallahassee,
Florida to Clay Crawford, Secretary of State, dated March 29, 1907, concerning

Florida Republican State Central Committee, to Hon. H. Clay Crawford, Secretary
of State, Florida, dated October 24, 1904 relative to filing of certificate

4. W.W. Finley, President of Southern Railway Company. Printed copies of
his reply to Toast at the Annual Banquet of the Merchants and Manufacturers
Club of Greensboro, North Carolina, April 1907. Also includes a printed
copy of his address to the Commercial Club of Mobile, Alabama dated April
25, 1907. 2 items.

an Article of Incorporation, Pierre, South Dakota dated 1903. Printed booklet
entitled, "Organization of the Florida Vegetal Development Company
of South Dakota," principal office, Pierre, South Dakota and Branch
Office, Tallahassee, Florida, dated 1904. Booklet entitled "Relationship
of Capital-and-Labor on the Thelma Plantation." Described as located
in Florida, "In this beautiful scenic stretch of country known as
Florida; with its mild and equable climate; its rich and fertile soil,
well watered by numerous lakes and rivers and rivaling in productivity
the region of the Nile; lies the tract of land that in the near future
will be transformed into a veritable utopia..." A printed announcement
of the Florida Vegetal Development Company, undated, entitled "This
Appeal is Addresses to You," in which they offer "A civil service
system of employment in order that your position may be rendered permanent
and secure...seven hours work with ten hours pay, and a share in the net
profits...we will also rent you a two acre residence farm, build you a
neat, comfortable cottage, furnish you with farming implements, seed and
fruit trees, and the necessary fertilizers; also furnish you with poultry,
milk cow, and assist you in the cultivation of your residence farm...Our
charges for all of the above is only $8.00 per month." 4 items.
