Memoirs of Helen M. Edwards
Scope and Content:
The Memoirs of Helen M. Edwards (1851-1926) is an eight-page
typed pamphlet that contains a picture of Helen M. Edwards at the age of
twelve and consists of three parts: Part I. "Recollections of My Life
on the Plantation before the Civil War"; Part II. "War-time Reminiscences";
Part III. "After the War." Each part describes vividly the social,
economic, and political conditions that existed in Florida during the various
periods, but could be applied to all of the adjoining states of the "deep
south." Valuable information may be found in the pamphlet on the subjects
of Plantations of the South, Slaves of the South, Civil War, and Reconstruction
in Florida.
The Memoirs is a gift of Agnes Edwards, daughter of Helen Edwards,
who was a graduate of Florida State College for Women, Tallahassee, Florida.
