John Quincy Adams Certificate of Sale of Land
Biographical Note:
John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), served as the 6th President of the United
States from 1825 to 1829. As the son of the 2nd President, John Adams,
he is the only President to be the child of a previous President. Throughout
his amazing career in politics, he served as a diplomat, Secretary of State,
and a member of the House of Representatives, where he was a vocal opponent
of slavery.
Scope and Content:
Certificate No. 67 of register showing that "the full payment
has been made...for the sale of the public lands for the East half of the
South East quarter of Section thirty five in twonship one North of...one
West, in the District of Lands offered for sale at Tallahassee in the Territory
of Florida containing Eighty acres and forty-seven hundreths of an acre
according to the the official plat..." Sold to Robert Jameson. Signed,
J.Q. Adams. Dated, 15th Day of March 1826.
