Purpose and Mission

Recognizing the personal, societal, economic and environmental benefits of recreation, the leisure profession provides and promotes leisure opportunities for all citizens. Leisure activities are an integral part of people's lifestyles and billions of dollars are spent annually on recreation programs and facilities in public, private and nonprofit recreation agencies. Consequently there is a need for qualified professionals to manage programs, land and facilities in various community environments.

This is a service-oriented career in which professionals work with people of all ages, backgrounds and those with special needs. To succeed in this field one should value recreation and parks, have organizational skills, initiative and energy, and enjoy working with people.

Nationally Accredited: The Recreation and Leisure Services Administration (RLSA) program at Florida State University is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of the National Recreation and Parks Association/American Association of Leisure and Recreation. This is one of the top-ranked recreation and leisure curriculums in the United States and graduates are known for becoming leaders and trendsetters in the profession.
