Course Requirements

To earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration, students must successfully complete a minimum of 60 hours at the upper-division level. The 60 hours must include:

  • Thirty-one semester hours of required course work:

LEI 3701 Human Growth and Development (4) (or an approved human development course and LEI 4906)

LEI 3004 Introduction to Recreation (3)

LEI 3140 History and Philosophy of Recreation. Leisure and Play (3)

LEI 3420 Analysis and Utilization of Leisure Activities (4)

LEI 3435 Program Design (3)

LEI 3403 Applied Programming (1)

LEI 4551 Administration of Leisure Systems (3)

LEI 4524 Leadership and Supervision in Leisure Systems (3)

LEI 4602 Planning and Maintenance of Facilities (3)

LEI 4881 Assessment, Research, and Evaluation (3)

LEI 4930 Senior Seminar (1)

 

  • Seventeen (17) hours of field experience:


LEI 4921 Field Work (2) – taken in two separate semesters

LEI 4940 Internship (15) – taken in final semester

 

Eligibility for Internship: The following are the requirements for eligibility for Internship (LEI 4940), which is scheduled during the last semester of the program of study:

 

    • 2.5 overall GPA for all college course work

    • 2.5 GPA in all LEI core course work (excluding LEI 3701 and approved specialization classes)

    • Grade of “C-“ or better in all LEI course work and approved specialization courses

    • Valid certification in First Aid and CPR
