Graduate Education:

Programs of study in the Department of SMRMPE lead to the Master of Science (MS) and the Specialist degrees in physical education.

Master's Programs

The Master of Science (MS) degree in teacher education in physical education. Both a thesis and nonthesis option is offered. Core courses are required in both options. Six (6) semester hours of 4000 level work may be part of the program with permission of the supervisory committee. Master's degree applicants for the teacher education major must have completed an undergraduate major in physical education or a related area at an accredited institution or must demonstrate adequate preparation.

Master of Science with Initial Certification

An alternate Master of science degree with Initial Certification in Physical Education is offered for people who already have an undergraduate degree. A two year program including undergraduate and graduate courses will prepare students for a K- 12 teaching certification in physical education and a Masters of Science degree. Requirements include a passing score on the Florida CLAST exam or the Florida Teacher Certification General Knowledge Test and the GRE.

Specialist Programs

For the Specialist in Education degree, students are required to have a master's degree in physical education or a related area. Course work is tailored to the student's individual needs, goals, and interests.
