LEI 5317 Event Management Issues in Ethics and Risk Management (Available Fall 2008)
This is an advanced course in event management. The focus will be on issues and considerations in event planning ethics, risk management and safety.
Course Objectives:
The student will:
- Develop an ethics policy statement for a community event management company, organization or unit of government that specifically incorporates acceptable practices for business ethics in event management.
- Critically evaluate the existing risk management plan of a community provider.
- Develop a risk management plan which reduces the risk exposure of said existing community provider, incorporating the techniques described in this course.
- Describe acceptable practices for business ethics including the costs of doing business, fair competition, and maintaining ethical boundaries as related to event planning in various venues.
- Describe appropriate practices for business etiquette regarding entertaining and interacting in a variety of situations related to event planning in various venues and with diverse cultures.
- Prepare a plan for management of event risks including alcohol, crowd control, emergencies, for various events and venues.
- Design a plan to manage risks associated with outdoor events including stage safety pyrotechnics, parades, animals, children, water, and demonstrations.
