Welcome Home!
Welcome to the new home of the Inter-Residence Hall Council. We are very excited to call this site our new home on the internet. Please look at the accompanying pages for our mission, our plans for the upcoming semester, and even find out a little bit more about the executive board members.
National SALT!
We're very excited to announce that the Inter-Residence Hall Council was notified on Friday, January 11, 2008 that FSU's Student Award for Leadership Training bid had been selected by the National Board of Directors as the national winner. This means that we will be sending a presentation team to the American College Personnel Association conference to present our leadership training program to the conference delegates. We will also be presenting our program to the delegates at the National Association of College and University Residence Halls conference in May.
Fall Semester 2007
The Inter-Residence Hall Council saw a lot of changes during the course of the Fall 2007 semester. The biggest visible change was in the location of our office. We have moved from the Westside Community Office to the second floor of the Union.
We also had an unprecedented amount of success at the SAACURH conference at the University of Florida. We were awarded the Spirit of Giving award as the most philanthropic institution. We brought and decorated the most picture frames and we brought the most board games. Our delegates were also rewarded with four top twenty program awards. The most prestigious honor that was bestowed on Florida State was the Student Award for Leadership Training for the SAACURH conference. Our bid has now gone on to the national level and we'll find out the national winner in February.
We're also very proud of the accomplishments made by the Hall Governments. The Fall Semester saw the greatest Homecoming activity by the Hall Governments in recent memory. As well as a huge number of programs, both conscious and social, that led to a very competitive Hall of the Semester award. The award was won by the Cawthon Hall Government with 2nd and 3rd place going to..., repectively.
The Summer Months
Just before leaving Tallahassee for the summer, the executive board got together and planned our tradition fall week of programs. Look for more information about those events on the caldendar page. The board also brainstormed ideas about how to get their organization's name more into the public knowledge base. They planned to get t-shirts featuring their new logo which would be given to every hall government member, all of the resident assistants, and other residence life staff members. They also discussed the possibility of handing each student a key chain on move in day, this idea is coming together with the help of the National Residence Hall Honorary. And on August 18th, 2007 more then 6000 students will be given key chains by the Inter-Residence Hall Council.
In late May IRHC and NRHH sent 9 delegates and an adviser to Osh Kosh Wisconsin for the annual NACURH conference. Every member of the delegation presented at least one program at the conference. Director Aaron Hood's and Adviser Dawn Rendell's program was named to the top forty of the conference and they were awarded with lapel pins that recognized their achievement.
During the month of July Director Aaron Hood and NCC Casey Miskowski were both featured on the blackboard login page in recognition of their outstanding efforts as Florida State students. With Assistant Director Keenan Mahoney and Secretary Leslie Lacret to follow in the coming months. They are all gearing up for their return to campus on August 10th and cannot wait to resume their work.
