Cornelius Troy
           Black Student Union
           President 2008-09

The Black Student Union wants to Welcome all incoming students especially freshmen to Florida State University and the Tallahassee community. We hope to provide a home away from home.

The Black Student Union also wants to recognize our 2008-2009 Excecutive Board members headed by President Cornelius Troy, Vice President Patrice Harris , Treasurer Mike Bailey , and Secretary Jana´y Johnson.

Greetings,

The Black Student Union strives to produce and promote economic, political and academic enrichment through its activities. The BSU, as it is affectionately called, also serves as a catalyst to the enlightenment of the Florida State University community to the distinct and proud cultural heritage of Black people in America.

It is our goal to induce an environment that is racially open-minded and productive, so that we can help eradicate the negative stereotypes that are associated with race. We thereby plan events that are geared toward educating the masses about African-American culture, tradition and accomplishments. It is our hope that with effective programming we will be able to change the negative views associated with race and that we can thereby promote a culturally rich and proud environment.

A hallmark of this culturally rich and proud environment is the Black Student Union house, which represents Florida State’s monumental efforts towards spearheading integration in the South East. We are thus seeking to ensure its continual place on campus by fundraising for a new house that will represent that hallmark move that Florida State University made so many years ago.It is our joy to serve the Student Body and we look forward to seeing you at our events. It is truly a pleasure to be serving as your 2008-2009 President of the Black Student Union.
