Mr. Purvis Ponder has thirty six years of experience in the field of teaching Orientation and Mobility (O&M) to the visually impaired, thirty of which has been at Florida State University preparing future O&M teachers. He is co-author of the first textbook in the field of O&M and it continues to be used by the majority of university O&M training programs. His primary interest is in teaching his students the practical and functional applications of the other senses to compensate for the reduction of vision in orientation to and movement through the environment.
