GENERAL INFORMATION

The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling Services is committed to high quality personnel preparation programs, service to the state of Florida, and research in disabilities and related areas. The Department strives to provide programs of excellence serving undergraduates, graduates, and advanced graduates by teaching, advising, and providing professional role models. The goal is to graduate competent and confident professionals who have a commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities.

The Department offers special education and rehabilitation programs at an undergraduate and graduate level. The four major degree areas of specialization are:

Special education teacher preparation programs are accredited by NCATE and the Council for Exceptional Children and approved by the Florida Department of Education. Rehabilitation programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. The Department is a member of HECSE, the Higher Education Consortium of Special Education.
