For applicants currently or recently enrolled in school, these should be from faculty. Follow instructions in the recommendation section of the online application. List the name and email address of your recommenders. These people will receive an electronic prompt about uploading their letter for your application. A Short Statement of Purpose. Russian and East European Studies Graduate Admission Standards A candidate is admitted to the program by meeting the University's general requirements for graduate admission and by recommendation of the director and advisory committee of the program. All applicants must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (verbal, quantitative and writing portions) prior to admission to the program. The minimum guidelines for admission to the program are an upper division (junior and senior) grade point average of 3.0 or better and a minimum combined score of 1000 on the GRE. Higher attainment on one measure may offset lower attainment on another. These indicators are considered along with other evidence of preparation including letters or recommendation and a personal statement. It is recommended that the student have undergraduate preparation in those fields where graduate work is contemplated. The application deadline for regular graduate admission is July 1 for the fall term beginning late August; Nov 1 for the spring term beginning early January; and March 1 for the summer term beginning early May. Funding Opportunites for Graduate Study Applicants to the program are encouraged to seek funding from the program, the university, and outside sources. Please be aware though that the deadline for fellowships and grants is different from the application deadline for admission to the Program; usually, the deadline for these awards is early January. Also, some university scholarships are based on departmental nomination, and some require students to meet additional criteria. Highlighted below are scholarships that seem most appropriate for students in the program, but please visit the Office of Graduate Studies website for a full list of potential scholarships and grants, the specific requirements for each, and the precise application deadlines. For All Students: Graduate Assistantship Awards Graduate Assistantships are available and carry a stipend of $5,000 for nine months for one-third-time service. These awards include a tuition waiver for nine credit hours each semester. The graduate school application must be complete in order for an applicant to be considered for this award. University Fellowships Applicants to the program may be nominated for Florida State University fellowships that pay up to $18,000 for one year and include tuition waivers for nine to twelve credit hours each semester (according to the type of award). Study Abroad Scholarships Scholarships of $1,000 are available for summer or fall study abroad programs. Applications are available on the International Studies Blackboard site and are due in March. Latin America/Caribbean (LAC) Scholarship Pursuant of Florida Statute 1009.21, graduate students who are citizens from Latin America and the Caribbean (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) who have been awarded a non-duty scholarship, from the U.S. federal government or the State of Florida government or by the government of the Latin America/Caribbean country of origin, of a minimum of $500 per academic year (fall and spring semesters) may be eligible to be designated as Latin American – Caribbean scholarship recipients.
