Undergrad. Certificate In Demography
ABOUT THE CERTIFICATE
This certificate is designed to afford undergraduate students, especially those
majoring in the social sciences, the opportunity to enroll in a sequence of
courses which will provide an overview of methods, materials and issues in
demographics. The certificate will complement many undergraduate majors in the
College of Social Sciences, especially sociology, economics, geography, and
interdisciplinary social sciences. Students who wish to apply at this time may
claim credit for any component courses of the certificate which they have
already completed, providing that the grade earned for any such course is at
least C-.
HOW TO APPLY
Interested students are invited to contact the Demography Program
to discuss course selection. Application for the Certificate consults of a letter to the Director of
the program that explains why you are interested in the certificate and how you expect that completing the program
will further your career objectives. If possible a transcript for all completed course work
should accompany your letter. Each student should meet with the Director regarding choice of courses and
their progress toward completion of the certificate. EARNING THE CERTIFICATE The certificate will be
awarded to students who successfully complete the block of six courses dealing
with population and demographic issues within a social science framework, or approved substitutes. The
courses chosen include treatment of demographic data and methods and the theory
of population from a variety of perspectives. A total of 18 semester hours from
the following list must be completed with an overall GPA of 2.25 (C+); no grade
in any individual course below C- may be counted towards the certificate.

make up the core of the certificate program; these must be successfully
completed by all students who wish to earn the certificate:

One course is required in Research Methods. Three hours, choose one from:
