With an M.A. in philosophy and another in theology, Joseph has the dubious distinction of being Joseph Long, M.A., M.A. or, for short, Joe MAMA. He is presently working on his dissertation, and his main philosophical interests are moral philosophy (esp. ethical non-naturalism, non-reductive ethical naturalism, and current developments within virtue ethics), philosophy of science (esp. natural kinds, multiple realization, and reductionism), metaphysics (esp. causation and material constitution), and philosophy of language (esp. theories of semantics and reference for kind terms). When not doing philosophy, he enjoys playing racquetball, listening to or playing jazz, reading 19th century British literature, and conversing over good beer and cigars.
