The 2009 Politics of Education Yearbook examines the politics of advocacy in education policy and research. As the nature of political advocacy in education, and the plethora of educational advocates — lobbyists, advocacy coalitions, grassroots community organizers, philanthropists, and religious s groups, for example — have diversified and intensified around many politically contentious education issues, so has the research examining this activity.  The articles include recent empirical research and conceptual analyses from established and emerging scholars in the politics of education.  Authors explore a range of policy issues, including school funding, social movements, and the influence of advocacy-based research on educational policy. The issue is organized into three sections which reflect the changing nature of policy advocacy in the US: 1) Congress, States, and the Courts, 2) Institutional Arenas: Think Tanks and Philanthropies, and 3) Sociopolitical Movements.
