Fall Letter

Welcome to the Politics of Education Association. Most of us are now back to school, working in very interesting budgetary circumstances. If nothing else, we are reminded of the relevancy of our endeavors, if sometimes on a daily basis.

I am pleased to announce that the PEA membership has reaffirmed our SIG status with AERA. One immediate implication is that we must now insure our by-laws are congruent with AERA’s by-laws guidelines. I will be working with the executive committee over the year to bring our current by-laws into alignment and draft will be ready to be considered on at the upcoming AERA convention.

Second, this year we had generally the same number of proposals submitted for the AERA convention as we did last year. So our “allotment” of sessions will remain roughly the same. Rebecca Jacobson, program chair, and the review committee are busily working towards building our program for the convention.

Finally, there will be a Politics of Education Association breakfast at the UCEA Convention on Saturday, October 30th, at 7 AM. At this session Andrea Rorrer will discuss the politics of establishing a research center. For those of you who are able to attend the UCEA Convention, I look forward to seeing you there.
