Student Government Elections

by Melissa Lam

The SGAP, which stands for Student Government Association of Panama, will have new faces for next semester.

During April 13 and 14 several new members of the student government were elected. The new student representatives are going to work with the previous government for a semester, and after that, this new government will take over and will work for two consecutive semesters on their own.

The list of candidates was relatively short, since not many people know that they had the potential to run for these positions. Basically, to be a member of this association you need to be a responsible person, eager to help and listen to the concerns of the student body. Most important of all, a representative needs to be a person who enjoys teamwork and is eager to improve things around campus, so that each one of us could enhance and enjoy our university time.

Elected for SGAP President was Ricardo “Nemo” Argurcia; for Vice-President, Thomas Booth; Derek Jaramillo, Arts and Culture Representative; Carlos Vargas.

Personally, as the outgoing secretary of this association, I strongly encourage you to consider running for one of the vacant positions during a makeup election scheduled to take place early during the Fall Semester. Serving in the SGAP is a very exciting and unique experience that you will never forget. You get to learn from each other and you get to help others, which is a very remarkable experience. In addition to this, if you become part of this association, you got something great to tell your grandchildren about your time in the university!
