Although we had Tallahassee’s assurance that by mid-April the community of FSU-Panama would know who will be the next rector, as of today, April 21, the identity of this individual remains unknown. What we do know is that there are three finalists: Dr. Carlos Langoni, Acting Rector; Dr. Stanley Heckadon; and Dr. Paulina Franceschi. As promised, students had a chance to voice their opinions about each candidate. The results of the student evaluations were turned over to the search committee and have yet to be released to the public. Various members of The Pananole News sent emails to the Office of International Programs on the main campus, but no one received a response. Philip Denis, former Student Government President, contacted Ms. Michele Ceci of the Office of International Studies. Ms. Ceci informed Philip that Dr. Stanley Heckadon has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position. In addition, she stated that a decision has not been made because the board has been unable to meet. Ms. Ceci also informed Philip that the decision will reach us at the latest by mid-May. In the meantime, the question continues to hover heavily over the campus, which has been without a permanent rector for an entire academic year: Who will be the next rector? Stay tuned; we’ll keep you informed. |
