Do you know anyone who wants to learn English or who has to prepare for admissions to a US university? If so, the Florida State University English Language Program offers courses in English, TOEFL prep, and SAT prep. The English courses are designed to help the students develop basic skills such as writing, reading, grammar, listening comprehension and conversational skills. The methodology used in the program is multidimensional. It includes activities such as role-playing, listening comprehension (using tapes, videos and CD-rom), and special exercises designed to stimulate interaction between students. The more advanced levels place an emphasis on skills related to academic success: reading, writing, note-taking, research techniques, oral presentation and library use. All of the ELP professors have a degree in education and/or English as a Second Language. They all have experience in teaching English in recognized programs such as ours here at FSU Panama. The English Language Program also offers its students the use of a language laboratory, equipped with interactive programs. These programs help the students practice their skills and measure their progress. The use of the lab is covered in the cost of the course. The ELP library sells hundreds of books, both new and used, most for under a dollar. The ELP students can participate in and attend all athletic and cultural events that take place in FSU Panama. Moreover, the ELP student can use the athletic facilities. For those interested: The program consists of 10 levels. The first-time student must take a placement test that will determine the level he or she is at.
