FSU Tallahassee Librarians Visit FSU-Panama
By Xiao Wei

Three Florida State University Librarians—Maryhelen Jones, Associate Director; Carolyn Klatt, Head of Electronic Resource Management; and Robert H. McDonald, Assistant Director of Libraries—visited the FSU-Panama Campus during the week of February 2, 2004. The purpose of their visit was to introduce the FSU Libraries' new Web Site (http://www.lib.fsu.edu) to the Panama Campus. The revised Web Site includes a new section (http://www.lib.fsu.edu/fsu_panama/index.html) that features the electronic resources that support the FSU-Panama Campus programs in Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Information Studies, International Affairs, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies.

The librarians spent considerable time with Mr. Anthony Blackie, FSU-Panama Librarian, discussing the libraries’ collections, catalogs, networking, and overall operations. During the visit, the librarians were able to meet with many faculty members to introduce present resources and services that support their teaching and research. Dr. Carlos Langoni, Acting Rector, and Mrs. Alexandra Anyfanti also spent considerable time with the librarians discussing the information needs of students of FSU-Panama.

“Their visit was extremely fruitful,” says Anthony Blackie, FSU-Panama librarian. “We gained so much from their expertise. Our catalog is now complete and will be accessible online very soon. Also, our library now has its own website. In addition, the team made it much easier for us to access the main libraries’ databases. The amazing thing is that they did all this in just a couple of days. I am thrilled with everything they’ve done for FSU-Panama.”

Our visitors encourage all faculty and students to get an official FSU email account (garnet or mailer) to access electronic resources, which include databases, e-journals, and e-books from off-campus. The librarians hope to return again soon to the FSU Panama Campus.
