In the spirit of maintaining high standards in extra curriculum sports activities, Florida State University–Panama (FSU-PANAMA) has engaged in a variety of intercollegiate events every semester—both for women and men. Students who come here from the United States to study for a semester are allowed to participate in these competitions. Furthermore, FSU-PANAMA not only engages in a wide array of tournaments, but the campus plays host to some of the most exciting tournaments in Panama. Due to the Panamanians’ love for soccer, different universities hold tournaments each semester. Among these, FSU-PANAMA plays host to one of the most electrifying indoor soccer tournaments in the nation. Every university in the country is invited to participate. Typically, over fifteen teams compete for the Championship Trophy. The Florida State University-Panama Seminoles men’s team won last season’s indoor-soccer tournament. This team was composed of the same players who earned second place at the annual tournament organized by the Universidad Nacional de Panamá. The Universidad Nacional is the biggest campus in the nation, with a student body of over fifty thousand. Our campus has a student body of four hundred, so for FSU-Panama to reach second place among the much larger Panamanian universities was a certainly a big accomplishment, letting everyone know that NOLE pride goes far. The FSU-PANAMA indoor-soccer tournaments are held every summer during the months of June and July. ![]() Photos by Eric Holland While maintaining a competitive edge in soccer, FSU-PANAMA has become a dominating force on the softball field. Last season, FSU-PANAMA took first place in a couple of intercollegiate tournaments, overcoming the always-powerful Universidad Nacional de Panamá. In the National Championship, the FSU-Panama NOLES went to the finals, losing due to an umpire’s highly controversial decision in the last inning, against the Universidad Nacional, which has won the last six championships. ![]() Photo courtesy of Eric Holland This semester, FSU-Panama is hosting the Panamanian National Collegiate Volleyball Tournament for the fifth year in a row. Both the Men and Women Seminole teams made it to the semi-finals, but we expect to do better next year. ![]() Photos by Eric Holland The competitive spirit of the NOLES in Panama is very strong, and it improves with each passing year. The students of other universities are beginning to realize that NOLE pride is very strong force to recon with, and our sport ranking is rising accordingly. If your goals are to go into an institution of higher learning with a competitive sport program, don’t look any further than FSU-PANAMA. Come and be part of history in the making! Come to Florida State University-Panama! |
