Thou ought to be nice, even to superstition, in keeping thy promises, and therefore equally cautious in making them. Thomas Fuller (1608-1661) Never promise more than you can perform. Publilius Syrus (-100 BC)
We’re all tired, but we did it. Everyone involved with The Pananole News has worked diligently to deliver on the promise to publish at least two issues per semester. Not only that, but we, the editors, believe that The Pananole News team is becoming better at what we’re trying to accomplish: to provide our community with an engaging and informative news bulletin. We are honest when we affirm that student reporting has vastly improved since our first issue. Our work as editors has gotten easier as well, which can only mean one thing: the writing has gotten better. We’ll let you, however, readers of The Pananole News, be the judges of that. What you have before you has truly been a group effort. We’d like to thank Alicia Breininger, Diana Nakad, Walter Dupery, Xiao Wei, Ursula Keiner, and Leonel Jimenez for the articles and interviews they contributed. Our gratitude goes to Oscar Perez for his photographs. We also thank Joella Hayams, Eric Holland, and Victor Brown—FSU-Panama Staff Members—for their contributions as photographers. A big thanks goes to Kristin Hoyer, who wrote an article while also acting as the official Pananole News photographer. A medal of honor goes to Monica Martinez, who went beyond the call of duty in accepting three assignments. We must note that Monica gallantly agreed to write the haunted campus story as the clock toward publication was ticking into its final hours. Kelley Jackson, from way out there in Tallahassee—the outer reaches of civilization—contributed a student guide to life on the main campus. Thank you, Kelley. You are missed. Once again, we tip our hats to Carla Pinilla (“What would we do without you?”). She is responsible for making The Pananole News so pleasing to the eye. On behalf of the entire Pananole News team, we hope that your holidays will be peaceful and spent in the company of those you love most. See you next semester, next year. Silvio Sirias |
