“Few people think more than two or three times a year; I have made an international reputation for myself by thinking once or twice a week.” George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)
We’ve discovered that there’s a great benefit to The Pananole News coming out as an ezine (as opposed to print): anyone anywhere in the world can read what’s going on at Florida State University-Panama. Our first issue received many positive comments, not only from within Panama, but also from students now in Tallahassee who enjoyed reading about their former campus. We thank each one of them for their support of The Pananole News. Furthermore, our effort gained what we consider to a major endorsement. Eric Jackson, editor of The Panama News, an online English-language news publication, enjoyed The Pananole News so much that he gave us a permanent button in his News section. We’ve decided to return the favor, and The Panama News will have a button so that our readers can visit Mr. Jackson’s bi-monthly journal. The Pananole News will continue to cover events at FSU-Panama. We’ll leave the rest of the nation to The Panama News. Another measure of our success is that this issue comes to you with double the articles of our first edition. Our thanks go to Monica Martínez, Leonel Jiménez, Vicky Colorado, Alicia Breininger, Walter Dupery, Phillip Denis, Ursula Kiener, Melissa Lam, and Verónica Maggiori for their commitment and the hard work they put forth in making this number of The Pananole News possible. Special thanks go to Beth Hartsfield for her long-distance contribution, and we wish her luck in her internship in Washington, D. C. Also, thanks to Elysia Beech for her article and for contributing much of the photography. Finally, we bow in gratitude to Carla Pinilla, who in addition to writing an article also worked diligently with the design and uploading of this issue. All the credit for our new look goes to Carla. We hope you continue to enjoy The Pananole News. Silvio Sirias |
