Application Procedures

Applications are accepted at any time. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Only students pursuing or having already completed a graduate degree are eligible for the specialized study program.

NOTE: Before students can take courses towards the specialized study all application requirements must be met.

FSU Graduate Students (Current or Previous): A complete specialized study in museum theory and practice program application for students currently enrolled in or having completed a degree-seeking graduate program at FSU, must include the following:

  1. A completed application form.. (Click here for fill-in, emailable form [pdf])
  2. A two-page typed statement of intent that explains the student's reasons for pursuing the specialized study in museum theory and practice, previous museum experience (either volunteer or paid), any museum related coursework the student may have taken, and any particular area(s) of interest in museums.
  3. A statement from the student's academic department either the student's major professor or academic advisor acknowledging the department's knowledge of the student's participation in the museum theory and practice graduate speicalized study program and agreement to adding the museum theory and practice graduate specialized study requirements to the student's course of study.
  4. An interview with the museum theory and practice graduate specialized study academic coordinator to discuss program requirements and the student's course of study.

Students Holding Graduate Degrees From Other Universities: Students who wish to apply to the program as a non-degree seeking student must also apply to the University for non-degree seeking student status here: https://admissions.fsu.edu/NonDegreeApp/. A complete museum theory and practice graduate specialized study program application for non-degree seeking students must include the following:

  1. A completed application form.. (Click here for fill-in, emailable form [pdf])
  2. A two-page typed statement of intent that explains the student's reasons for pursuing the specialized study in museum theory and practice, previous museum experience (either volunteer or paid), any museum related coursework the student may have taken, and any particular area(s) of interest in museums.
  3. One letter of recommendation.
  4. A resume.
  5. A copy of the student's transcript from institution where graduate degree was completed.
  6. An interview with the museum theory and practice graduate specialized study academic coordinator to discuss program requirements and the student's course of study.
