Application Procedures

Applications are accepted at any time and are reviewed at the beginning of the subsequent semester in which they are received. Electronic submissions are encouraged.

NOTE: Applications received after the 15th of the month prior to the beginning of the semester will be held until the following semester. (Ie.: Applications turned in after December 15th will not be submitted to the admissions committee until the Summer semester; Applications turned in after April 15th will not be submitted to the admissions committee until the Fall semester; Applications turned in after August 15th will not be submitted to the admissions committee until the Spring semester.)

A complete application, for students already enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate program at FSU, must include the following:

  1. A completed and signed application form. (Click here for fill-in, emailable form [pdf])
  2. A one-page typed statement of purpose that explains your reasons for pursuing the certificate in museum studies and your career goals.
  3. Two letters of recommendation. One must come from a member of the Museum Studies' steering committee and the second may be from anyone who is familiar with your academic or professional work.
  4. Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not the program was completed.

Students who wish to apply to the program as a special student must first apply to the University for special student status and then to the Museum Studies program. A complete application must include the following:

  2. A one-page typed statement of purpose that explains your reasons for pursuing the certificate in museum studies and your career goals.
  3. Three letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a Museum Studies steering committee member (Click here for the list of steering committee members). The additional two letters should be from individuals who are familiar with your current academic and/or work achievements and potential.
  4. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not the program was completed.
