Expressions maghrébines a journal produced by FSU’s Winthrop-King Institute for Contemporary French and Francophone Studies has been ranked among the world’s top humanities journals by the European Science Foundation (ESF). Expressions maghrébines, which publishes cutting edge research on literatures of the Maghreb (the former French colonies of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia), was ranked by the ESF's European Reference Index for the Humanities in the top tier of humanities journals, reserved for “high-ranking international publications with a very strong reputation among researchers of the field in different countries, regularly cited all over the world”.

The journal was launched in 2002 under the editorship of Alec Hargreaves, Director of the Winthrop-King Institute, which continues to serve as production headquarters. It is currently edited by Marta Segarra at the University of Barcelona. Hargreaves remains a member of the Editorial Board, whose members come from the world-wide Coordination Internationale des Chercheurs sur les Littératures du Maghreb. He coordinates a production team at FSU that includes Wolfgang Adolph in the Department of Modern Languages (IT), Pam Morris in University Communications/Publications (design) and Amanda Hanson in the Winthrop-King Institute (administration).
