Janet Gomez and Renata Redford, two second year Florida State University M.A. students in Italian Studies, were selected to participate in the annual international SYNAPSIS conference (September 7-12, 2009) sponsored by the European School of Comparative Studies.
The site for this year’s conference was Castle Bertinoro in Italy. The SYNAPSIS conference is the joint creation of leading European universities including Cambridge, Paris X, Madrid, Tübingen, Siena, Provence, Copenhagen, Bologna, Lisbon, Aarhus, Limoges, and such institutes as the Association for the Studies of Theory and Comparative Literary History and the Institute of Humanistic Studies, as well as the British Comparative Literature Association.
The SYNAPSIS conference normally includes only professors or advanced Ph.D. students: Gomez and Redford are the only M.A. students from any country to be selected to participate in the conference. They will present their research in the seminar Shadows of the Mind that explores the relationship between imagination and insanity.
