Basic Spanish Program

SPN1120 Elementary Spanish I

Welcome to Elementary Spanish I! In this course you will begin to develop basic communicative skills in Spanish and use those skills to expand your knowledge of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking peoples of the world. SPN 1120 is the first of a three-semester sequence of courses designed for students with a) no prior knowledge of Spanish, b) who have studied Spanish for less than one year in high school, and/or c) who have earned a score of 0-15 on the Spanish Placement Test. The Placement Test may be taken at the Assessment Services Test Center in University Center, Building C, Suite 1200. Information regarding the placement test may be found at http://www.fsu.edu/%7Emodlang/undergrad/placement.htm. This course may not be taken concurrently with any SPN 1000-2000 level course and is closed to native or heritage speakers of Spanish. Students who do not comply with the aforementioned requisites risk being dropped by the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics after the Drop/Add Period has ended.

Objectives & Goals: By the end of the semester you will be able to communicate in basic Spanish about a variety of topics, including your daily schedule and activities, university life, shopping, family, and food. In addition, you will be able to understand, summarize and express opinions about portions of a Spanish film, Sol y viento.
