Juan Carlos Galeano
Latin American poetry, translation, and Amazonian
culture. Juan Carlos Galeano is a poet, translator and essayist
whose work has appeared in journals such Casa de las Américas
and Revista Casa Silva, and in the United States in The
Atlantic Monthly, Ploughshares, Partisan Review,
and Revista Iberoamericana, among others. He has published
collections of poetry like Baraja Inicial (1986), and Amazonia
(2003) and has published translations of selected works of North
American poets such as Charles Simic El pollo sin cabeza
(1999) and Sharon Olds Los muertos y los vivos (2001). He
has also done research on the poetry of violence. In 1997 the Universidad
Nacional of Colombia published his book Polen y escopetas,
a study of the poetry of "la violencia," in Colombia, 1940-1960.
