This course focuses on Narrative Theory and follows the development through the centuries of three important genres in the Italian literary tradition: the novella, the fairy-tale and the short story. We will approach tales of love, lust and amorous conflict both from a formal and theoretical perspective and analyze the connections between literature, politics, anthropology and history.Among others, we will read novelle by authors such as Boccaccio, Machiavelli, Basile, Pirandello, Calvino and Dacia Maraini.
