E-mail Dr.
Parrat
M.A. in English Linguistics and French Literature, University
of Zurich (Switzerland), 1998; Ph.D. in French Literature,
University of Pittsburgh, 2004.
In her dissertation entitled
“Zola’s Woman as Unnatural Animal,” Dr.
Parrat studied how certain female characters in Zola’s
novels question the received notion about the human-animal
border and the related distinction between the male and
the female, using Gilles Deleuze’s and Félix
Guattari’s notion of becoming-animal.
Dr. Parrat is interested in
19th century and 20th century French literature, feminist
theory and literary theory, and contemporary French-language
literature of Switzerland. In the summer, she taught at the Ecole française of Middlebury College (2004), at the Cours d’été of the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland (2005-2007), and she co-directed the FSU French Intensive Program in Paris (2008).
