Dr Martin Munro (M.A., Ph.D University of Aberdeen) specializes in Francophone Caribbean literature and culture. He is the author of Shaping and Reshaping the Caribbean: The Work of Aimé Césaire and René Depestre (2000) and Exile and Post-1946 Haitian Literature: Alexis, Depestre, Ollivier, Laferrière, Danticat (2007). He has co-edited two volumes on Haiti: Reinterpreting the Haitian Revolution and its Cultural Aftershocks (2006), and Echoes of the Haitian Revolution (2008). He has co-edited two special issues of the journal Small Axe and is co-editor of the new annual Francophone Caribbean issue of the same journal. His articles have appeared in journals such as French Studies, Romanic Review, Journal of Modern Literature, Journal of Haitian Studies, Research in African Literatures, Francophone Postcolonial Studies, Small Axe, and International Journal of Francophone Studies.
He has a particular interest in Haitian history, literature, and culture, and co-organized two Haiti-themed conferences at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, where he worked for seven years. He has also previously taught in Ireland and Scotland.
He is currently working on rhythm in circum-Caribbean cultural history.
